Flight

This fine-art project sought to apply the medium of acrylic paint to communicate a profound reality. The use of the chiaroscuro juxtaposition of light and dark builds a dramatic scene that initially draws the viewer to soak in overflowing rays of sunlight that pour through the dark clouds.

The piece communicates gravity and the vast significance of the created order that God has made. It shows how His light shines in the darkness to reveal His beauty and truth to us (John 1:5). The light of the sun will rise with healing in it’s wings (Malachi 4:2) to drive the dark of doubt away.

Also, for the attentive viewer–that person who takes the time to take a step forward and look a little harder and longer–there is a reward: Slightly hidden, yet in plan view is a human-made passenger jet taking flight in the center, slightly right, of the scene. This subtle reference to the human-made things of this world in contrast to the world of God’s creation using size to dramatize the reality of our smallness and temporal nature in comparison to Him and what He does (Psalm 8:4).
